Amy Burke is a Texas Certified Teacher with 12 years experience in teaching students to love language arts.  Her fun loving attitude and approach to learning is enough to engage even the most reluctant reader.  As a Sam Houston State University graduate, Amy enthusiastically shares her her extensive English Language Arts expertise with diverse groups of educators through professional development initiatives.  Amy is registered with the Texas Early Childhood Professional Development System as trainer #43610.

Ashley Conner is an elementary physical education teacher in Galveston ISD.  She graduated from University of Houston – Clear Lake with a Bachelor’s of Science in Fitness and Human Performance in May of 2013.  Ashely has also received training for the district’s Fourth R (relationships) initiative and training in Yoginos: Yoga for Youth. She is currently pioneering a mindfulness approach to discipline through her elementary P.E. position.

Sharon Rohrer, LVN is nurse with the University of Texas Medical Branch and works in the the pediatric clinic in Texas City.  She has an LVN focused in Nursing Science from San Jacinto College.

Alma Chavez, MSN, APRN, FNP-C began her career as a licensed vocational nurse and worked with the indigent at Harris County Hospital District for 5 years. Striving to advance her skills, she received her Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing from the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston in 1999. It was then that she continued to work with the indigent spending eleven years as a specialty trained RN, providing well child exams to children of all ages. Her passion for patient care then drove her to earn her Master’s of Science in Nursing from UTMB, specializing in family practice.

Alma is board certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners and joined the family of caregivers at UTMB Health Pediatrics, Texas City in 2012.

Jacqueline Rorie, BS is a 1st grade bilingual teacher, Curriculum Learning Facilitator, and Folkloric Dance Team Director at Burnet Elementary School in Galveston ISD.  She has a Bachelors of Science from Texas A&M at Galveston in Marine Biology and is currently pursuing a Masters of Education in Leadership for Linguistically Diverse Learners

To respect the planning time of our presenters, and to allow for adequate resources, registration for SMART Family Literacy Workshops will close one week prior to the event.  Because your payment reserves you space at the workshop, all sales are final.
